Noted Montana guide and owner of the Master Angler, TOM TRAVIS has been guiding the waters of Montana for thirty years, to include the Yellowstone, Madison, Big Horn, and Missouri rivers all well as the waters of Yellowstone national Park and the famed spring creeks of Nelson's, Armstrong's, DePuy's and Milesneck's.
Tom has been tying flies for 44 years and has been a fly tying instructor since 1978 and teaches a total of 27 different fly tying classes. Tom travels and does both fly tying and fly fishing seminars. From 1987 to 2000 Tom owned and operated Montana's Master Angler fly shop in Livingston, Montana and still operates a Fly Fishing Outfitter Guide Service by the same name. In 1993 he wrote Montana Fly Fishing Opportunities for the FFF, a 42 page booklet outlining the fishing in and around the Livingston area. Along with Rod Walinchus, Tom co-authored Fly Fishing the Yellowstone River in 1995. Since 1994 He has been a contract fly designer for the Orvis Company and has numerous patterns in their catalog.
Over the past twenty years Tom has written the occasional article for American Angler, The Wild Trout Journal, The FFF Fly Fisher, Fly Fish America, Scientific Angler's Fly Fishing Quarterly, The Angler's Journal and currently has a tying article in the 2005 issue of Amato's Fly Fishing and Tying Journal, entitled Yellow Foam Slider Tube. In 2003, Tom was honored by the SE Council FFF with the Buckingham Award recognizing him as tier of the year in the Southeastern Council.
