For CCIs and MCCIs ONLY another Continuing Education Seminar "INSTRUCTORS ONLY" DAY
This event was the third in a series of continuing education days for certified casting instructors. The setting was casual and informal, with plenty of opportunity for questions, comments and sharing of teaching methods.
Part 1 of the program this year, "ON TARGET--Improving Casting Accuracy for Instructors and Students" was the world premiere of the Foundation Series Workshops from the Continuing Education Committee, workshops directed exclusively to FFF Certified Casting Instructors for their use as instructors. David Diaz presented the "ON TARGET" program which included hands-on field instruction, so fly casting gear was required. David chairs the Continuing Education Committee for the Casting Board of Governors and is a Master Certified Casting Instructor.
As the FFF Casting Instructor Certification Program matures, refining the performance profile for the MCI instructor becomes a necessity. Joe Libeu (chair of the CBOG committee that devise and test those changes) with Jay Clark and Dusty Sprague presented Joe's "An Insider's View"clinic describing the proposed changes to the MCI performance test and the reasons for the changes. Joe had previously presented this MCI test changes program at the National FFF meeting in Loveland, Colorado in 2009. The changes range from controversial to innocuous, but they have stimulated strong interest. Besides the new performance requirements for candidates, the program covered the revised, detailed expectations for testers administering the test. Most, if not all, of Part 2 was conducted outside at the Casting Fields.
