MORE BREAKING NEWS:

SOUTHEAST COUNCIL YOUTH WINS SPOT ON YOUTH ADVENTURE

Remember this article from earlier this year

MONTANA'S BIGHORN RIVER ALLIANCE LOOKING FOR YOUNGSTERS TO PARTICIPATE
in the 2011 BIG HORN RIVER YOUTH ADVENTURE - JUNE 23-26, 2011

A Montana fly fishing organization called the Big Horn River Alliance, established an educational activity what they call the "Big Horn River Youth Adventure". They would like help finding young people to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime activity. They ask that we review their web site www.bighornriveralliance.org and, if we like the idea, they would appreciate it if we would give a heads-up to all our council's clubs that might have some young people who would like to apply. On their web site click on the NEWS tab and the PHOTOS tab to see an article about the 2009 and 2010 Adventure with comments from the kids and their parents and photos of the kids in action. The Adventure far exceeded everyone's expectations and the kids went home with a newfound appreciation for fly fishing.

In a nutshell the Youth Adventure is four days of guided fly fishing with full time professional guides, fly tying sessions every day with professional tyers, and evening activities that will include casting games and instruction, fly tying games and contests, and a "you row it carp fishing tourney". The Adventure accommodates twelve youngsters. Boys and girls both are encouraged.

All of this is FREE to the kids. In 2009 the Fort Smith, Montana angling community donated over $17.000.00 worth of goods and services for the program. All the kids (actually their parents or fishing club) will be responsible for is the cost of getting to Billings, Montana and back home again. Even the fishing licenses are donated by the State of Montana.

THEY'VE GOT THE PROGRAM. NOW THEY NEED THE KIDS.

Well, guess what. A South Eastern Council youth saw the article, made an application and was one of twelve youngsters selected to attend the adventure. Congratulations to Hamilton Wise, age 17, from Columbus, Georgia. According to his mom, Sheryl, “He leaves June 22 for a fun 5 days of guided instruction on fly fishing and fly tying with the Big Horn River Alliance.”

She also passed on that “He will be a senior in high school next year and has chosen to do his project on fly fishing, fly tying and rod building.”

The family is attending the SouthEastern Flyfishing Festival in Helen, GA in June and is really looking forward to all the programs and events.

Now this is really great news!!
